As part of their Culture + Climate programme 2020, THG (Thelma Hulbert Gallery) has teamed up with East Devon National Landscape to share NATURE SHORTS: an online series showcasing art practices to inspire, build creativity and deepen our connection with nature.
With much of the original THG Culture + Climate programme impacted by current restrictions on public gatherings, NATURE SHORTS aims to provide alternative ways to experience the artists’ work at home and explore how we can all connect with nature during isolation, by sharing different artistic approaches to land and space.
Each short film will introduce a different activity to encourage creative connections with nature, taking inspiration from featured artist’s work across a range of materials and processes, including land art, photography, printmaking and performance.
The artists include: Emma Molony, Gordon Field, Gabrielle Hoad and Megan Calver, George Barron, Paul Blakemore, Jo Lathwood, Mike Perry and Fourthland.
NATURE SHORTS will be accessible on the East Devon National Landscape website and via THG’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram platforms, launching on Wednesday 15 April with a family–friendly nature short created by Emma Molony.
NATURE SHORT 1 – April 15: ‘Printing with Paint’ with artist designer Emma Molony, inspired by THG’s latest Richard Long exhibition, to help us connect with nature in creative ways. Richard Long is celebrated for his use of natural materials – mud, stone, seaweed – to create land art, prints and sculpture. The LOLA art kits used in this video will be available at THG for purchase, upon reopening.
NATURE SHORT 2 – April 22: ‘Experiments with nature outdoors and at home, finding new narratives and new readings’ with artists Megan Calver & Gabrielle Hoad
NATURE SHORT 3 – April 29: ‘Tree exercises to help find well-being and cope with future changes’ with artist and tree dowser Gordon Field
