This is full of veteran trees, stunning displays of bluebells and other wildflowers, and a historical monuments dating from prehistory to the Napoleonic Wars.
There many lovely tracks to explore. There is also a flat circular trail offering a accessible route for prams and mobility vehicles in drier months.
The site is owned and managed by Forestry England.
Cycling
If you are looking for specific cycle routes, the most well-known route is the East Hill Strips and the ridge way, a long, mostly flat track that runs along the top of the ridge. It offers fantastic views and is a common route for local mountain bikers.
A popular loop is to climb up from Ottery St Mary, go though East Hill woodlands and descend via Fire Beacon Hill.
